This blog is dedicated to those films that were made with an original voice, not a corporate one. These movies are worth seeking out, not because they are good or bad, but because they have the courage to be different. Enjoy and be inspired.

Another Nice Mess - 1972

They don't make movies like this anymore. In Bob Einstein's off-the-wall comedy, Another Nice Mess, Rich Little and Herb Voland portray president Richard Nixon and vice president Spiro Agnew. They both look just like the political duo, but they talk and have the exact same mannerisms of the 1930's comedy team, Laurel and Hardy.

To top it off, this ridiculous slapstick farce was released while Nixon was still the president. With the country fed up with the government of that time, one would have thought that the youth of America would have made this movie a huge hit. Instead, it disappeared from theaters so fast it had patrons wondering if they had really seen or just imagined seeing this film.

Many of the jokes are crude and much of the film is hit and miss, but the concept is about as clever as one can get. Good luck trying to find it, though, for as far as I know, Another Nice Mess is not available on DVD and has never been televised. To top it off, the producer, Tommy Smothers, the writer / director, Bob Einstein, and the star, Rich Little have never publicly discussed this original piece of cinematic mayhem.  Hmm. Do I hear conspiracy?
